Frequently Asked Questions

What file format are patent illustrations returned in?
We will return all drafts in a USPTO fillable PDF, we can also supply some illustrations in Visio and other formats if needed.

Can 247 Patent draft patents for foreign offices?
If you enter in a foreign filing location on our form, we will ensure that the drawings are formatted to that country’s regulations.

Why is 247 Patent’s Project Estimate higher than mine?
Our revised estimate is based on our analysis of the total estimated time needed to draft your figures; we then break the figures down in to levels of complexity. After you have received our revised estimate, you can proceed with the drawings, or cancel the order.

Why are there two Invoices?
The first invoice is the estimate you gave with your project, after our review we send back a second invoice.  The second invoice contains the difference, either you get money back because our estimation is lower or owe us a bit more because our estimation is higher.

I don’t format my informal figures the way 247 Patent does; I just want to send my entire patent’s information?
Our examples are meant to guide you down a road of clear communication. Visual communication is key in patent drafting, and it is critical that you are able to supply us with the exact information you are looking for. If you are looking to work through multiple revision sessions with a drafter, we are not for you. Our services are for those who know what they need, and know how to communicate their needs.

What if my drawings need revisions?
If it’s found that there is a drafting error from 247Patent, we will be happy to alter and update the figures as necessary. If you have additions to the drawings we returned to you, you need to start a new project and mark up all the new changes. Because we insist on receiving the most complete and clear information up front, we’ll be able to reduce the number of steps it takes you to get your product back.

Why are there different prices for revisions?
As you can expect, some rework will take longer than others.  Revising lead lines and reference numbers is easy, but reconfiguring your circuit board will take some time.  Submitting revisions is the same as sending in new work, attach your marked up illustrations, and we’ll estimate how much work is needed to revise.

When should I expect my drawings back?
Our typical turnaround time is 5-7 business days; there are some projects that will take more time, some that will take less. When we send you the confirmed price for the project we will also send you the estimated date of delivery.

What is a Patentability Search?
It is a review of filed patents and prior patent art to determine the novelty or uniqueness of your invention or process.

What information does a Patentability study give me for the similar patents?
A well performed prior art search will help unearth patents, which are similar to your invention. As an individual inventor, this will give you an idea on what other experts in the field have previously developed. In our report we’ll provide a full list of potentially infringing patents, but more importantly the ones that are the most relevant.

Why does an attorney need this?
When working on your patent application, an attorney should know about the range and properties of similar patents. This helps in ensuring that your application is not rejected due to non-availability of similar prior art patents. A complete patent search also protects you from other inventors who may come forward and quash your invention.

I’ve heard a Patentability study can help promote my invention?
If you want to market your invention but do not yet possess a patent, than the best option for you is to stress on the strong patentability of your invention. A prior art search will help in illustrating that your invention or idea can be patented.

How is a Patentability Search performed?
Our experienced engineers, scientists, and researchers utilize paid and subscription based patent databases and the USTPTO to identify relatable patents. Our staff searches by keywords, classification codes, date rangers, and if needed non patent literature.

What if I don’t know the specific details needed to perform full patentability study?
If you are having trouble identifying keywords, and aren’t familiar with classification codes, you can use out Patentability form for first time inventors, where we help you define the context and parameters of your Patentability Search. By supplying us with your idea’s information, we are able to develop targeted keywords and proper identify classification codes.

Why do you use PayPal & Google Checkout?
By using these transaction tools we can keep our prices so incredibly low. There is no invoicing at 247, so you know the total price of your project up front – that way you can bill your client on time and streamline your process.

What if I don’t want to sign up for PayPal?
When finishing submitting your project, you will be able to pay by major credit card, with no PayPal or Google checkout account.
